New generation PS5 Slim console from Sony has become more compact, lighter and more spacious
At the end of November, gamers in Japan, the United States and Europe will have the opportunity to purchase an improved version of the PlayStation 5 game console, which reviewers have already named “PS5 Slim,” although the manufacturer itself prefers the name “new PS5.”
While maintaining power comparable to the old model, PlayStation 5 received dimensions of 358 x 216 x 96 mm, which is almost a third smaller in volume than 390 x 260 x 104 mm of the previous console, and in weight – 24% and 18% lighter than standard models with a disk drive and without it.
Specifications have changed slightly. So, it uses the same 8-core AMD mobile processor based on Zen 2 architecture with integrated RDNA graphics, and the same 16 GB of GDDR6 RAM. However, the SSD capacity has been increased to 1 TB compared to the previously used 825 GB SSD, which will allow users to install more games.
Like the previous model, PS5 Slim will be available in two versions: Digital (without a disk drive) and Blu-ray (with a disk drive). But if the owner of the first option wants to be able to run games on disks, he can purchase a plug-in removable Blu-ray Ultra HD drive for $79.99 or €119.99 and make the necessary upgrade.
As for the external changes, they consist of dividing the two side panels into four ones, with only the lower ones remaining matte, while the upper ones acquired gloss.
It is planned that in the future the new console will completely displace its predecessor, which will no longer be released, from the shelves. Sony is sure that PS5 Slim is ready to satisfy the needs of gamers as much as possible.

The manufacturer promised that the cost of the new product will remain at the level of the old console. In the States, the model with a Blu-ray drive is expected to distribute for $499.99, in Europe – €549.99. The Digital Edition option will cost about $50-€47 cheaper. A horizontal console will be included with the console; those players who decide to prefer a vertical stand will be able to purchase it for 29.99, both in dollars and euros.
