Sunset Hills visual novel could hit smartphones before the end of the year
Immediately after the PC adventure game Sunset Hills appeared on Steam last August, talks began about its port to consoles and smartphones. It is nice to see that the developers from Cotton Game are fulfilling their promises, and quite quickly, because yesterday there was a message about the upcoming release of Sunset Hills on:

  • Nintendo Switch;
  • PlayStation 4;
  • PlayStation 5;
  • Android devices;
  • iOS devices.

The exact dates have not been announced yet, but it is unlikely that the release will have to wait long, since it is already known that the game will be presented at the Tokyo Game Show from September 26 to 29, and Chinese TapTap is accepting pre-orders, of which there are currently over 710,000. It is a pity that Sunset Hills does not have pages on the Apple Store and Google Play yet.

Judging by the reviews of the PC version, the game is an adventure puzzle with cute cartoonish graphics and a single-player company. The story centers on a demobilized dog-writer Niko, traveling around conditional Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. Wanting to see old friends, Niko will meet unexpected fellow travelers, unravel whole tangles of mysteries and delve deeper into his own past.

Sunset Hills received mixed reviews on Steam, but was named the best indie game of 2024 at the ChinaJoy exhibition in Shanghai and has received nearly 800,000 pre-registrations – and its upcoming expansion speaks for itself. In addition, a Japanese version of the story is being prepared for release on PC, and most likely the third part, in addition to the previous Doug’s Story: Bread of Memories and Ferruccio’s Story: Stage of Dreams.

Generally well received, the game was criticized for the lack of background music, although the overall soundtrack was pleasant to gamers, and for the unexpected 3D scenes for 2D characters, which players found “dissonant”.

It is unknown whether Sunset Hills will be distributed as a paid or shareware game. The full version for PC cost $6-7.
